Browser extension
Add furigana and a hover dictionary to any Japanese site, in Chrome, Edge or Brave. The dictionary is local: no page you visit is ever sent to a server.
How it works
- Install the extension.
- Open a Japanese site and turn on reading mode.
- Kanji get their readings; hover a word for its meaning.

Read the Japanese web as it is
Japanese text does not get easier because you pasted it into a translator: what you need is to keep reading the page, with help in the right place. The extension works on the page's text nodes and adds reversible ruby tags, leaving the layout untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Does the extension work on Firefox?
Not yet. The current package uses a service worker, which Firefox refuses; a port is planned.
Are the pages I visit sent anywhere?
No. The dictionary is downloaded once and stored locally, and analysis happens in the browser.
