Explanation

The causative means “make / let do”. Verbs ending in -u (godan, or “u-verbs”): the final -u becomes -aseru (書く → 書かせる, 読む → 読ませる; う becomes わ: 言う → 言わせる). Most verbs ending in -iru / -eru (ichidan, or “ru-verbs”): る becomes させる (食べる → 食べさせる). Irregular: する → させる, 来る → 来させる. The person made to act takes に (or を for intransitive verbs). Tone (force vs permission) comes from context.
